iTweak #003 - Facebook

Written by: AnT - Posted in: iTweak - Tags: , ,

This facebook app kicks ass. It allows you access to your favorite social network on your iPhone. Though I seem to have some problems with it since the new facebook launched it’s probably because I haven’t updated it to the latest version. Between this app and the word press app my bus rides and library stoning sessions are
Never boring.

iTweak #002 - Custom ringtones

Written by: AnT - Posted in: iTweak -

Edit: So there is a much easier way to do this now at MakeOwnRingtone.com as mentioned by Masa

I’ve tried it and it works, looks safe too =) But then again it might or might not stay up so if you like to do things the hard way continue reading my DIY guide. Thanks Masa for the great heads up =)

As promised here is a short guide on how to convert your mp3s into iPhone ringtones.

Things you will need
1. iTunes
2. A sound editor(audacity)

To start things off the iphone has a 3mb limit on the size of your ring tone file. I will explain this in a windows environment. This isn’t exactly legal but it is easily done. Haha…

Step 1: selecting the segment to use.
nb: you can skip this step if your file is smaller than 3mb
Audacity is an open source sound editor that I love. Basically find a segment that you would want to loop as your ring tone, cut it out and make what ever edits you like to it(I added fade effects) and then export it as an mp3file. You might have to download the lame.dll in order to so so.
Make sure your segment is less than 3mb in size.

Step 2: convert to AAC format
Play the song with iTunes to add it to your library and right click on the title of the song in iTunes, select the option to convert to AAC format.

Step 3: change file type to “.m4r”
Right click the song and select “Show in Windows Explorer”
Tools->Folder Options->View tab
Scrolll down until you find the option “hide extensions for known file types” and make sure it is unchecked. Accept the changes.

Now you should see the “songname.m4a” rename the file to “songname.m4r” and accept the change.

Play the “songname.m4r” and there you go, your very own custom ring tone…

iTweak #001 - Wordpress

Written by: AnT - Posted in: iTweak -

This app was gotten off the appstore on itunes.

So, how best to start my series on iPhone apps than to feature what I am using to blog right now from the train to bugis.. The Wordpress iPhone app is light and contains the basics required to compose and post blog entries.

It allows you to save your drafts locally and upload them at a time when you actually have an Internet connection, or just directly post if you already are on a wireless network.

I’m not sure how the hyperlinking or photo posting works as of yet cause I’m typing this offline. But I guess there must be some code that would be inserted into this text box that would allow it.

Granted, it does not allow you to moderate your comments or control the other settings of your wordpress blog. It still is an excellently designed app for those of you who get the sudden urge to record your thoughts digitally.

Edit: apparently it just appends the picture at the end of the blog post… Will keep that in mind. So anyway, that’s Juno my mums little pet chihuahua puppy. And it’s just a HTML editor basically, the sharp brackets are a bitch to get to..
